Customer Reviews For The Honeywell Medium Fire and Water Security Chest - 0.24 cu. ft.

Honeywell asked me for a review, but I feel strange reviewing an item that I hope I'll never need to evaluate for its effectiveness. On the plus side, it seems well-constructed, and arrived fast and in good order. On the minus side, some design details that could use addressing: 1 there's no way to grab the top to open it - its flush to the bottom. Even a tiny thumb or finger cutout in one corner would be helpful to open the lid. 2 the inside does fit 8 1/2 x 11 paper, but just barely - no room for a file folder with a tab on it, or even a large envelope paper folds up the side on short side - measures about 8 3/8 wide. 3 It isnt supposed to be stored upright I understand, but perhaps offer a unit that is designed to stand upright top on the long side and it slightly bigger than 8 3/8 inside so it can be used with tab folders. The related issue to this design issue for me is that the handle is on the front when you have it laid correctly on its back with the lid flipped open. So, after you use it, lock it, and want to move it back to its location, you have to raise it upright on its back be able to carry it, then use two hands to place it flat again wherever you keep it because its too heavy to maneuver with one hand. Meaning, if you keep it in a place that you dont want to damage wood, cloth, etc., you cant just gently pick it up and set it down - handle is in wrong place for such a movement. Since its a document safe, it seems like it would be designed for easier document storage like, take folders out of a drawer, and place in safe, then pull out as a folder and use, then put back.

This is a good product. It is made very well and it looks well made. A word of caution though. The product is heavy, if you plan to move it a lot, you need some muscle. Also, if the inside bottom was 1/8 wider, the 8-1/2 X 11 pages would fit better, w/o curling up. This is a minor issue and that's why I gave it a full 5 rating.

I am overall pleased with my purchase. It arrived early and was well packaged. It is slightly smaller inside than I thought it would be. It does not hold a folder lying flat, only 8 1/2x11 papers that are not in a folder. Also, I do not like that the key must stay in the lock hole when the box is open and the box CAN NOT be closed without locking it. Would like to have the option to close the box without locking it. However, I would recommend to others and will be buying again.

I am very pleased with this product. I have researched several fire chests. Most do not adequately protect the content. This specific model was tested by a fire department and posted the results on the internet. It is large enough to adequately hold the items I need to protect. I did not purchase it as a vault from theft, but it is heavy nonetheless. I think it is a great deal for the price.

The safe is everything it was advertized to be and more roomy inside that I thought.

WE are very satisfied with the service from Honeywell direct and with thei safe box product. Our only concern is whether the front hinges will hold up in a fire, but otherwise the box is very good.
