Honeywell Home Smart Thermostat Compatible Homes
Only low voltage systems are compatible with Honeywell Home Smart Thermostats, so the first thing you can do is to identify your home's voltage. Here are some signs that you may have a low voltage system.
- Your home has a furnace in the basement, garage, ect...
- You have either central air conditioning, a heat pump, boiler, or split system.
- Your home contains heating vents along the floors of your rooms.
- Changing your thermostat affects multiple rooms.
Remove your existing thermostat from the wall plate. On most thermostats, you can take off the thermostat by grasping and gently pulling. Some thermostats may have screws, buttons or clasps.
What you should typically see is 18-gauge solid core wire. The most common configuration is five wires; however, you could see as few as two and as many as ten.
If you have a C-Wire an R (R/Rh/Rc) Wire, and any other additional wire, your home is probably compatible with this smart thermostat. A C-Wire or common wire runs from your low-voltage heating and cooling system (24v) and carries continuous power to your thermostat. If you cannot find an existing C-Wire, you have the following options: Check for a hidden or unused C-Wire, use a C-Wire adapter, or contact an HVAC professional.
If you have a high voltage or line voltage system, then this thermostat is not compatible with your home.
Here are some signs that you may have an incompatible system:
- Your current thermostat is labeled as 120v/240v or 110v/220v.
- Your thermostat has black or red thick wires connected by nuts.
- Your thermostat has wires with stranded ends.
If you see any of these, this smart thermostats will not work with your wiring. Honeywell Home does offer other thermostats compatible with line-volt systems.

There are several ways you can reset your Honeywell Home Thermostat:
- PERFORM FACTORY RESET
- Press and hold the Up Arrow and Fan
- Change the number on the left to 90, and the number on the right to 1
- Press Done
- Congratulations! You’ve reset your thermostat! You can now configure your device for its new settings on the thermostat screen.
- PERFORM A WiFi RESET
- Press and hold the Up Arrow and Fan
- Change the number on the left to 39, and the number on the right to 0
- Press Done
- Congratulations! You’ve reset your thermostat!
- PERFORM A SCHEDULE RESET
- Press and hold the Up Arrow and Fan
- Change the number on the left to 85, and the number on the right to 1
- Press Done
- Congratulations! You’ve reset your thermostat!

Own several of the WiFi thermostats, one is in a two story condo, other in another home. No longer I am required to go up or down the stairs or fall! Best of all, I can from anywhere change from a/c to heat or back if weather changes.
I first installed one of these (myself) in our home because we're snowbirds, to remotely monitor the temperature in our house. Since then I have added 3 more and will stick with this model (RTH6580WF) as long as it's available. It is affordable, reliable, does everything I need it to, and the support is great if ever needed.
very good thermostat easy to set up from a company that you can trust i only wished they offer a bigger screen one but this one is ok the way it is the phone settings would be easyer if they would have scroll wheel instead of arrows

This makes the second Honeywell thermostat I have purchased. They are both controllable by my Alexa. I highly recommend this thermostat for the average homeowner. Good product.
Sure nice to have a thermostat that actually works finally, as opposed to the Carrier thermostat that didn't.
The thermostat was easy to install and works perfectly with the Total Connect Comfort app which is not the same as the Total Connect app we use for our security system on our phones. We can easily control the heating or cooling even if were not home. We did have to do a work-around with an AC/AC adapter as we didn't have a C wire, but while that took a little bit of extra time, it went smoothly. My husband drilled a hole just above the baseboard and threaded the wire from the thermostat down to the hole. We then plugged the adapter into an outlet that was luckily only about 15 inches away.
Easy to install, works like a dream. Wireless was not hard to incude and set up.
I had a standard Honeywell thermostat before and upgrade with this unit. Wi-fi is great as you can control temperature settings via the app it just took a little while to get set up and registered. I've had it a little over a year and has worked well.
