Good low-temperature backup heater control
I heat with gas, but I've had both furnace and natural gas supply failures when not home in the past, independent of electricity failure. This thermostat can easily control two inexpensive back-up 120-volt electric heaters at a temperature below what can be set on most built-in wall heaters. I set it around 40 degrees simply as cheap insurance to keep the house and plumbing from freezing in the event of a recurrence of either event. They will automatically run if your house gets that cold. A pair of 1500-Watt heaters supplies 10,000 Btu/hour - typically enough to keep any smaller home from freezing. Just wire it to control two dedicated 15-20 Amp circuits for the two heaters, making sure they cannot start a fire. Or use radiant garage heaters mounted overhead.. To do the same thing with a conventional thermostat would entail extra costs for a 24-volt transformer a double pole power relay to switch the heaters and additional electrical boxes to contain them somewhere.

Non-programmable Thermostats
Excellent product. I was delighted to be able to buy them directly from Honeywell, and at a significant discount to those in the Big Box stores. Ordering was easy and customer service was great.
